Hello fellow formers.
As I start my weight loss program, there is a question that is lingering on my mind.
How far can you bring a suit down without damaging it?
My current stats are
30 5'11 285lbs 48L (buttons don’t exactly close) and 44x32
My goals are
stay 30:) 185 lbs 42L and since I have been blessed with a nice hinny 34W

Would I be able to take a suit jacket down 6 sizes and the pants 10 inches without ruining the suit?
If not, what is the max you think I would be able to take the suits down?

Generally it's about 2 sizes down at most you can go...

take the suit to a consignment shop and get yourself something new to you

A really good tailor can take it down more, but it will cost you. I had a suit taken in quite a bit this summer. Deconstructing the jacket is not an easy task. In the end it cost me about $150 for the tailoring. I probably should have bit the bullet and bought a new suit.

As much as it will cost you to have a suit altered down that much, you are better off buying a new suit. At that level I'd guess they would rip the garment apart at the seams, cut out a bunch of fabric, and sew it back together. That takes time and will cost a bundle.

I don't bother having clothing altered unless it's expensive, and even then there's a point at which you just need to cut your losses and buy something in your own size. Around here tailors charge an arm and a freaking leg just to hem a pair of pants, and it took them a week to do two pairs last time I had pants hemmed. I really should learn how to sew, but I'm afraid of wrecking something I just spent a bundle on!
