Ok, so everyone in the contest can chat about their progress here, ask questions, and post anything that they like! This will all be taken into account along with the Body Transformation Contest Weigh-Ins Thread, for determining prizes!

Have fun!

I suppose I'll ask the first question, I'm still a little confused. Are we to copy the entire first posting, with all the dates of weight-ins and measurments, into the other thread, then just update that weekly? Or just write in a little note of how we're doing, then update the original post from the original thread?

I'm sure all the kinks will get worked out soon!

As for my progress, after 2 pounds down in the first 6 days or so, I ran into a really bad cold so I just got back to the gym yesterday for the first time since Thursday. But happily I didn't gain anything, just lost all the cardio I had built up :( But that should come back quickly.

How is everyone else doing?

Haha, no just leave your first weigh in in the other post, and continue with the second weigh-ins, and measurements for this week in the new thread.

I'm back down to having only gained 4 lbs since the start of the contest. Yeay! :D I switched to a ketogenic diet, and am taking a week off from weight training (though certainly not because I want to  ).

That's too bad about your cold, jojo. Glad you're feeling better and optimistic. Hope everyone's doing great. And if you're not, ask for help!

Oh, and Happy Valentines. :)

Hi everyone! I have been going up and down and couple of pounds for the last few weeks and I have been down about it. I finally feel like I broke my mental plateau. I have been eating better and I see a difference on the scale, yeah! I feel like I am back and my progress will continue. I have been coming on here and reading the other posts, which I feel kept me from gaining a bunch of weight back, so THANKS! The only bad thing is I had to cancel my gym membership because of a money situation. We have a clubhouse in our community that has a fitness center. Unfortunately the machines need to be replaced. But If I could walk or run there(1/2 mile) and do some weights as well as some cardio then walk or run back, that should be a pretty good workout.
Good luck everone! Thanks for being such great supporters.
Cathy

Also, a little confused too. Do we update that original thread and then post our results here? Thanks!

Yup. This thread is for chatting, comments, whatever else. There's another thread here (http://weight-loss.fitness.com/contests/19340-body-transformation-contest-weekly-weigh-ins-measurements.html) (which I've just noticed you've already updated) for this week's weigh-ins and measurements. And just that. They're separated so it's easier to check everyone's stats because all the "clutter" is in this thread. ;)

Glad you're making positive changes. That's fantastic. :D

I am quite pleased with those measurments, even if they aren't extremely significant.
I normally wouldn't include the ._ of a measurement, but now i'm glad I did, because even if the big number is the same the ._ loss definitely made up for it for me, and made me feel a lot better because there was change. :)

A loss of 2.5 inches. : D

YEAH! apologies for being a cheesebag:p, but i'm so proud.

How is everyone doing? I am trying to keep up with you guys. Hopefully on Tuesday I will have a lose. I am missing my exercise right now, but definitely tomorrow I am going to the clubhouse and having a great workout. I guess with the mindset I have been in I am glad that have been maintaining instead of gaining. So, when I get to goal I think I will do good at maintaining(is that spelled correctly-because it doesn't look like it!).
Have a great weekend!

Unfortunately it's been a rough start for me. I ran into that rough cold, then finally got back to the gym for a few days, then nothing from Thursday until today (between valentines day, volunteering, work and "family day" here in Ontario, I just couldn't find the time). I really do have to start making exercise a priority for me. If I had an interview or a doctor's appointment, of course I'd arrange my life around that. I'm sure other people can understand not putting the gym up there with such high priority, and I'm sure everyone is just as frustrated about it as me! Anyone found a good way to deal with this? Any tips on training my brain into making it a priority? :)

Anyways, I don't enjoy making excuses for myself, but that was my last week and a half. The good news, I have nothing scheduled for myself for weeks, so there shouldn't be any problems getting to the gym for the next while! My only obstacle will be my snacking :S

How is everyone else doing?

I am with you jojo. My mind is not in it right now to exercise. But, I think the best thing to do is just go. I find that when I put my workout clothes on I suddenly feel the urge to exercise(too bad I haven't been putting them on). If you promise to go exercise tomorrow, then I will too. I will be back tomorrow to let you know that I went. I hope you go and enjoy it!

I just started following a new plan, and am being assisted by sparkpeople once more, as last time I failed to use the site regularly after a few weeks, but now it'll be easier to keep track without writing it all down on my own.

Focus-
How do you like the ketogenic diet? I've done that twice and had great results with my body composition, but my mood was really up and down.

Well, I'm still in the induction phase, but so far I like it pretty well.

I always prefer to eat natural foods, but when eating at a deficit I find it hard to take in the quantity of carbs and such necessary. And I really can't stand WO nutrition, it's too sickeningly sweet (or if I go with whole foods that quantity of any grain makes me want to throw up). I'm a pretty picky eater for a fat kid. :P Having said that, most of what I like is - you guessed it - meat. And cheese. And coconut (unsweetened, which I've discovered makes a fantastic fiber supplement, and tastes amazingly good on keto because of the sweetness multiplier effect). So, I've gone from forcing myself to eat various things and relying on meal replacements to eating tasty whole foods only when I'm hungry. Overall I'd say that I'm not even noticing the absence of carbs. So much for a "restrictive diet". It's not restrictive to not eat what you don't like. More like liberating.

As a result, my mood is excellent. Roughly the same as on a balanced (Zone-like) diet. But then again, it usually is. Being a boy is nice. (Why yes I did just rip on the ladies :D). As far as energy levels being low and such, I'm fine. My first weight training session after coming back from my break I didn't seem to have as much gas, but my gains are still considerable and consistent. And results - I won't know until later tonight, but my inches still seem to be going down at a reasonable pace, despite my ridiculous ability to gain weight at nearly any caloric intake. I'm eating nearly 1000 more calories on keto and making what seems like roughly the same progress in terms of fat loss. I don't even know what's going on anymore.

So, yeah, I guess I could have just said good. :coolgleamA: Thanks for askin'. :)

Cathy

I did go to the Gym and had a great workout, and a also had a few epiphanies about my attitudes towards food and exercies.

First, the workout. I coordinate going to the gym with my boyfriend going to boxing, and tonight his class was 1.5 hours, so that means I had a little longer at the gym. So I did an hour of cardio for ~1000 cals (or however accurate the calorie counter is on those machines! But i did work up quite a sweat so I know I was working hard, plus my hear rate hit near max on my intervals). I also did a half hour of weights; tonight was back/chest and triceps.

But I think more importantly than actually doing the exercise is that I realized that I often reward myself for some good deed or sticking to my plan by eating foods restricted in my diet plan (perrogies, chocolate, fries etc.) and punish myself for going off plan by having to do extra mins of cardio at the gym. I'm sure we all do this from time to time; we ate that extra cookie at lunch so we need to do an extra 20 minutes on the stairclimber. Or we're good and on track for a week so we get to eat that huge piece of chocolate cate or have fries rather than salad. And I realized that's just conditioning my brain to always hate exercise, and always seek out junk food! I think it's important to treat oneself every now and then, but I don't think it should be a "reward". As well, I should enjoy and look forward to trips to the gym ('cause I do feel really good afterwards) but if it's always, "I've been bad and here's my consequence", I'm never going to want to go! So, as of today, I'm going to try to associate the gym with all things positive; that endorphin high after a killer cardio session, muscles being sore the next morning (I actually enjoy this, means I worked hard!), being able to lift more and run faster next week. And as for "reward food", I'm just going to treat it as part of my diet plan, that Thursday I'll have a food I'm craving as part of my calorie count and not because I did so well during the week.

Wow, this turned into a rant. Sorry 'bout that!

I hope everyone's Wednesday morning weigh-ins went well!

Ciao

great job, jojo. It is good that you looked into why you didn't like going to exercise and found an answer. I understand what you are saying about rewarding yourself with food and disciplining yourself with exercise. It sets you(and me, and everyone else) up for failure. Thanks for bringing it to light, hopefully it will help me to get into the gym more often.

Rewarding myself with food eh? Oh yeah i used to do that, I'd walk to tim hortons just so i could say ' hey i walked here i can have a bagel smothered in cream cheese." It's a really hard habit to break but if you can you'll life way easier.

Right now for me it's a matter of doing the hard workout or doing two easier ones to makeup for not doing the hard one. I know the two easy ones do not burn the same calories as the hard one, I know it and yet I still try and convince myself that two is always better than one.

Also I am jealous of all you people with gyms to go to. I'd kill to have access to machines.

I just copied the timeline someone had written out on the original page. I think everyone who joined a little later and is going until May 7 seems to be weighing in on the Wednesday.

3 days at the gym in a row! Whoo! I think I'm going to take a rest tonight, I can feel my body getting tired and that usually means, for me, a plateau is imminent because I can't push myself as hard at the gym due to tired muscles. I think a nice walk along the river trail right by my house with a friend is a good reward for a week of hard work, then hitting the gym hard saturday.

I hear you about the "short walk = lots of food"! I worked on a farm for a few summers, and there was a corner store about a 2 block walk from the dorm I was staying at on the farm. I didn't have a car, so I justified going to grab a snack if I walked there. Which might have worked if I just grabbed something small, but while I was at the store I'd load up; bag of chips, chocolate bar and icecream for the walk home. I don't think the 15 minute walk there and back added up to ~1000 cals of junk!

1 hard workout vs 2 easy? IMO (and it is just that) maybe alternate days. A good all out ass whooping is always good, but two less-hard workouts in a day can be good too, give your muscles a chance to regenerate and keep the metabolism up all day.

Do you do your workouts at home?

Hello all,

Just checking in with everyone and I see there's some discussion on your progress! Hope the transformations are going smoothly. I can't say as an admin I set a good example, as I was on my holiday this week:P Bad bad bad......as my weight gaining goal I probably did gain some, but not muscle as intended.....probably more in the fat department....ugh.

At least I can't win the prizes:P Speaking of, Sean posted some of the ones we are getting from Sissel, so if you haven't had a chance to look at them, there is a posting aside the other threads for the contest.

Make sure to keep your weight posts weekly and up to date in the weigh in threads!

I'll be looking into some winners for the first set of prizes for month #1 this week.

Keep up the good work!

You weren't the only one on holiday. My tuesday weigh in wasn't what I expected, my body fat reading was a lot higher than what I or my workout buddy expected, I had a cold so I "couldn't" do my cardio this week (plus it was/is cold and wet outside)... what a bunch of downers! To add to that, my mother and I had our birthdays this past week and I feasted for about 4 days! (I'm sort of complaining about it, but I had a lot of fun lol :cheers2:). I just finished eating some left overs including pecan pie, and I think I'm ready to get back on track. I don't think this week's (02/26) weigh in will be very good, but I'm determined to have a good one the week after (03/04).

jojoluvsu2 ~ yeah home is all i have to work with but it's pretty good. i can finally go outside to workout again. A daily walk in the park should kick up my calorie burning a bit and change up my routine a little.

Most importantly it's one month in and I feel great ( if a bit more tired than usual everyday)

I can see how having a gym puts us at an advantage for weight loss, but I think you're setting yourself up for a life of healthy living by doing it at home! I'm not always going to have a gym membership (secretly I HATE the gym), and once I decide to no longer go to a gym I'm going to have to figure out how to increase my activity in daily life! You'll have already figured that out. I'll get a dog or something, take it for runs ;)

As for me, down another pound! And that was while on my period :) Can't wait to see if it was actually more once the extra water weight goes away. I started eating a bit more at night, and I think that's making a huge difference in my energy level.

How is everyone else doing?

I didn't do so hot this week. I decided to up my calories to a healthy range and watch my fat/protein/carbs intake better, because I wasn't doing it regularly and my calories were way too low, so in turn with this I gained weight this week.
But i'm okay with it, not going to beat myself up.

Looks like everyone's doing well.

Remember guys and girls, especially those of you not seeing the poundages they'd like to - take measurements and body fat readings, they help - it's not how fast you are out of the gate, but rather how willing you are to suffer. :D If you never give up, you can't lose. ;)

ladyumbra

Casanova it sounds like despite the gain you're doing what you need to. Now that you're back up to a better intake you can decrease slowly.

I should follow your example of watching my fat/protein/carbs, mostly I've just been monitoring the calories and running from sugar

*waves to focus* Measurements went well minus my upper leg which somehow got bigger. I'm not sure if this actually happened of if I made a mistake measuring.

Due to the magic of my friends loving to play DDR as much as I do i now have less to worry about this weekended. I might be indulging in a slice of two of my birthday cake but I can make sure it won't ruin my eating plans but still getting in my exercise via DDR.

casanova

I am going to start decreasing next week i'm thinking, so I can make sure my intake is regular enough.

lady umbra, you should try it for a week or two, or a month. It might seem inconvenient at first, but use Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople (http://www.sparkpeople.com), or start a journal on yourown to record it, and it can help a lot. :]
Also, I love DDR! Its my favorite way to exercise.

Or try FitDay.com, if you want a little more freedom to choose what you eat. It'll tell you the % of the macros, but it's up to you to keep them balanced.

Small update for me, I've decided to do a triathlon in the spring (a try-a-tri, shorter distance). Hopefully that'll keep me motivated to workout, beyond just trying to lose weight. Though I may have to take a few swimming lessons again, I havn't had any formal instruction since I was about 8.

What's your goal for the weigh in 4 weeks from now (3/18 or 3/19) and how do you plan to do it?

My goals:
-for my arms to stay the same circumference (lose fat, gain muscle)
-lose some inches on my stomach (don't know how much)
-continue lifting at least twice a week (I've already increased the weights I lift by a couple lbs)
-continue to do some form of aerobics at least 3 times a week (usually jogging for 20-30 minutes or riding my bike for an hour).
-cut down on bean and cheese burritos from del taco and taco bell, cheese has too much fat and the whole thing just has too much sodium
-walk my dog more often
-get down to 185 lbs (7.6 lbs!!!)

*My goal is not so much for the weigh in but for my measurements. I want at least 2 inches gone off my hips.

*Weight loss wise I'd be happy for 6-7 pounds.

1.5 hours cardio a day
1 resistance session every day
mandatory 5 hours sleep a night so i have the energy to workout.

What's your goal for the weigh in 4 weeks from now (3/18 or 3/19)
I am not really focusing on weight so much as my measurements. I get more success in thatarea, and I feel its more important that a number on the scale that could be inaccurate unless you have a good one.
With that said, my goal is to lose up to five inches on my hips, and maybe 2 or 3 on my waist. my hips need to catch up with the rest of my body asap:p

how do you plan to do it?
Way too many rounds of DDR, a lot of cardio workouts[turbo jam ftw!], walking/jogging/running, crunches.
cardio five days a week
strength training three days a week.
eight hours sleep ^_^ [ i love sleep x 94395]

What's your goal for the weigh in 4 weeks from now (3/18 or 3/19)

- Be around 142-145 pounds (down 5-8lbs ish)
- Have my "slightly-uncomfortably" tight jeans be comfortably-tight (they have gone from not-quite-getting-past-the-thigh to wearable but slightly uncomfortably tight, with a final goal of too lose and need a size or two smaller :))
- down a few inches everywhere, especially the thigh (my problem spot) and that spare tire (love-handles + lower back flab + lower ab flab) another problem spot.
- up my cardio fitness (lower heart rate pushing the same watts on the bike, longer run, etc)

how do you plan to do it?
- 4-5 days cardio a week, (listening to my body to make sure I'm not pushing too hard, strain injuries plague my past)
- continue to eat as I have been ~1800 cals, 50%carb, 30%fat 20%protein
- drink more water

Hey Everyone!

How did everyone's week and weigh-in go?

I was a little disapointed with the number on the scale, I thought I'd be losing a little faster than that. But I am happy with the inches I lost and I think I can start to feel my clothes getting a little looser (see my above post), so I'm not going to be discouraged with the scale.

I am however going to knock out a few calories from my diet (Fitday is telling me I'm eating ~1700 a day, but I'm sure I'm under estimating on some stuff so it's probably more like 2000, which is just over my maintenance requirements. As well, I need to step back from the cardio a bit as I've decided to do a triathlon, and I can tell the running is starting to give me some aches and pains in the knees and back and I'll need some more days off if I want to continue. That being said, I'll need to drop my calories to compensate. So I'm going to aim for ~1400, and will probably actually be eating around 1700. Perfect! I may also invest in a digital food scale, so I don't have to estimate anymore :)

My goals for this week: restructure my diet as I said above but still get the necessary Macros, modify my exercise as well.

Ciao

Was both a good and bad week for me. good becuase of birthday but bad due to rl issues and poor weightloss. Nevertheless i convinced my fiance to join me in this and starting today we'll be working out togeather and supporting each other fully. Both of us are looking towards our wedding next year and we want to be lighter for that among other things.

Happy [belated] birthday! I'll be 17 in 9 days; yay

I feel all blarg and balloonish today for some reason, which isn't overly pleasant. I'm going for a walk later today now that its sunny though, the reviving of the scenery should put me in lighter spirits.
In dieting news, my friend decided he also wants to lose weight, and we might hit the gym together. He's quite a beauty also so that'll probably encourage me to compete and do my best with him:p

Ty casanova it was for the most part a good birthday. and early happy birthday to you.

i envy you your ability to walk, the weather here keeps being stupid by snowing half melting then freezing again to create a giant city of ice. my fiancee's already messed up her hip becuase of it. I long for real spring.

I woke up hoping to get an early morning walk-to-jog in, but its freezing rain outside:(

I still feel rather ick, and I do believe i'm lactose intolerant. =/ Ah well, I was never a fan of milk anyway. It feels like i'm coming off track though. The "I don't want to do this" blues.

I can't believe I'm not losing weight. Apparently the laws of thermodynamics do not apply to me. T_T

Hang in there, everybody. This is the rough patch. 4-6 weeks in. If you can just keep going it'll soon get easier as your progress becomes more noticeable (a major source of renewed motivation!) and routine sets in. :)

Hey focus, what kind of exercises are you doing, how often, how long, and what are you eating? Are your clothes fitting better? Do your measurements say otherwise? Are you using the same weighing scale? Maybe you're gaining muscle and losing fat? We gotta get to the bottom of this :) Just a little warning... I'm no expert lol, but I'd like to help as much as I can.

Oh, don't worry about me. Though I certainly appreciate the concern. <3

I'm just some sort of a mutant. I'm cycling through a number of different approaches to determine what works. And I like to complain about it. Both of which you'll note if you're ever bored and want to read through my journal on the other forums. ;)

Wow! :hurray: That is so awesome! I love how little things like that can totally reaffirm all the hard work you've put into your body.

I had another so-so week. I lost a few inches off the waist again, and one or a half everywhere else, which is such a good feeling, but the number on the scale is hardly budging! I know, the scale doesn't tell the whole story, as the inches are telling me, but it really is dissapointing! I'm sure others can relate, we all know the scale shouldn't be our complete measure of success, but it is nice to see the numbers go down. I shouldn't be losing too much muscle; I'm getting enough protein and doing resistance training 3-4 days a week at a fairly heavy weight. Hopefully something will click soon.

How did everyone else's week go?

Gained 0.2 lbs, but that's fine. I'm seeing lines/definition where I've never seen before, plus I'm sore. I won't be able to weigh myself next week (March 18th), I hope that doesn't disqualify me. Hopefully, my weigh in the following Tuesday will be a huge surprise!

^Good for you! :)

Happy belated birthday to mee!
My birthday was on saturday, and I got my septum pierced as a present to me for my so far loss.:)
I think stress has been kicking my ass in losing, and it didn't help that my running has been pushed into the wait a while category due to the fact we had 50cm of snow. but i'm getting back on track again. I added more regular yoga to my workout also, hurrah!

Looks like this week was either off or on for people. it was def an on week for me. I've got a sexy sexy 3lb loss that I attribute to fighting my damn period for. That and I've actually been putting in my resistant workouts which I'd been neglecting in the past. Those size 16 jeans will now button up which they wouldn't last week but they won't zip up yet that's mah goal for next week. I want in those jeans.

casanova I know about the snow oh but i know about it. no outdoor work for me until it goes away.

I actually destroyed a muscle near my back or something while shovelling all that crap so I have to lay off the exercise for a few days.
Me, my hot water bottle, and my bed for today.

And ladyumbra, I think that there is no greater feeling than when you finally fit into a pair of pants/jeans that are a smaller size. Going down a shirt is nice, and watching your body shrink is so great too, but theres such a feeling that comeswith pulling on those once one size too small jeans and doing them up.

Wow niapage, you've almost lost 100 pounds! That is so incredible and inspiring.

I had a so-so week. A little up on the weight, no big deal I'm not going to get discouraged. Instead, I made the decision that my program wasn't working and am starting something new. It was kind of hard, I felt I was doing everything right and was enjoying myself, but I think I got too caught up in what the cardio machine was telling me about calories burned, and didn't recognize that the scale wasn't moving, therefor what I was doing wasn't working.

Anyways, I bought "Making the Cut" after reviewing it. The workout routine she has set up is really challenging, and I needed something set that I can follow and not allow myself to slack off. We'll see how that's working by next week!

Happy Easter!

I haven't been around much this month, my apologies. I've been working my obliques to the max lately, they feel pretty great right about now.
Walkings going well too. I dreamt we bought an exercise bike last night. So..now I feel like getting one for 20 dollars at a secondhand store!

ahh but casanova will you run into the problem I am.

I HAVE NO PANTS. I have old gym shorts and like 2 pairs of jeans that conform to my new size. I don;t want to buy new pants but my old ones aren't comfy anymore since they are too big. but if i buy new pants now with like 70 lbs still to lose then they won't fit in a while either.

casanova
April 5th, 2008, 05:47 AM
Well what I do is I either thrift store shop or look in new stores for cheaper pants. I don't want to spend 40 dollars on jeans that won't be wearable for long, so i can go to stores like old navy, and find a pair of 40 dollar jeans for 4 dollars in my size, and that works for me.
It gives me pants i can temporarily wear until my next loss and in between, and i dont have to waste much money.

I gained 1.5 from last week! I haven't been exercising as much the past few weeks, and I've been way off my diet. No more hot cheetos for me, and I'm definitely going to have to cut back on all the pork and beef I've been eating. Today I ate lean and had a good workout, and I plan on taking a walk later. Next week should be better

Congratulations nia. Just remember, though there's 2 of you, don't eat for 2! For the 2 last trimesters, you only need 300 extra calories a day. I also heard you can continue to exercise, just take it a little bit easier. As long as you haven't been a couch potato all your life and decide to start running when you're halfway though your third trimester... then you should be fine. Btw, I have 0 children, and I'm a male... so I understand if you don't take my advice lol.

Hello everyone! Again it is that time of the month where I am checking in on everyone's progress! It seems we have had quite a few people drop out - and I'm not sure if that is normally common during contests and challenges, but it's too bad cause people will definitely be missing out on the great prizes!

Anyways, please post your weigh-ins in the weigh in section this week, and I will be posting the April winners early on next week. Keep up the good work though for those that have been at it the whole 4 months. It's a long haul but always worth it in the end:)

Just to keep in mind as well, I will be posting the final winners the first week of May with the grand prizes.

Good luck to you all and keep it up!
