View Full Version : Calories burned swimming?

I am having a hard time telling how many calories I am burning while I swim. I think I am doing the front crawl (which I thought was also the freestyle?). I swim in a 25 yard pool, and I get about 88 laps in 1 hour. I have been estimating that I burn 100 calories every 20 laps...any idea how accurate this is?

No offense but calories burned are the least of your concerns. 5'10" and 140 lbs??? You probably need to be putting weight on. What are your goals?

well, I am trying to get a bit below 140 before my spring semester starts. I'm not being unhealthy and my BMI is still ok. The thing is, I eat for comfort and next semester, my last semester in undergrad, is going to be difficult and I'm gonna need room for extra weight. it may sound like a weird strategy, but I went from 170 in june to 140 right now and at the very least I wanna keep it there till january then I'll let myself go on like a 3000 calorie max diet and get to about 160 by may when I graduate...but yeah, any idea on the swimming calories?
