View Full Version : Droping The Weight Before A Wedding

Hey everybody. I have decided to start up a new club. I think this acutally might spark some peoples interest.

Now my sister and her boyfriend are getting really serious and are planning to get engaged this May and then getting married in the summer of 2009.

I would love to have all of my weight off by the wedding which is a good year and a half away.

I'm sure there are others out there that are going to be in a wedding, getting married, or even just going to a wedding.

I thought maybe we all can join forces and talk about our weight loss journeys of getting into a wedding dress, bride's maid dress, or a tux.

Please feel free to post your thoughts about this. Talk about your wedding plans and ideas. Talk about whatever you want when it comes down to you fitting in that outfit for that wedding.

Happy Posting!!!

I totally need this club! I am *unofficially* engaged, and I are getting married late this summer. I always have such trouble with staying motivated. My other problem is finding time to exercise--I spend a lot of time commuting to and from work, and it gets down to choosing between exercise and seeing my husband to be. He has suggested we run together, but I don't want that to be the ONLY thing we ever do! I need some lovely advice from you all. I live in terror of being a fat bride. Is it even possible to lose 30 lbs in 8 months without starvation diets/pills? I want to lose weight healthily and keep it off.

You can totally lose 30 pounds in 8 months. I've lost 55ish in 7 months, and may hit 60 before the 8-month mark, without starvation or drugs. Or insane amounts of exercise.

Really? What sort of program are you following? How much do you exercise?

This is what works for me, and I had a good idea that it would work for me, because similar methods have worked for me in the past. It may not work for you (heck, it may not work for anyone else!) - you have to take your own body and preferences into account.

I don't have a specific program that I follow, or a specific amount that I exercise. I was enough overweight when I started that just making a conscious decision to eat smaller portions and to minimize refined carbs got me down about 25 pounds in 4 months. At my heaviest, I was having nerve-related foot pain that kept me from doing any standing exercise (including walking more than short distances - I was hobbling everywhere), but that loss got rid of the pain, and since I'd noticed my loss rate slowing down, I added some exercise and calorie counting.

I'm not a super-strict calorie counter (I eyeball stuff, and make educated guesses), in part because my work requires me to eat out a lot. But I do try to make an educated guess, and when I first started, I did try to weigh and/or measure as much as possible, so I'd know what a cup of food looks like on a plate, for instance. And I record everything I eat (using Fitday), even a nibble here and there. (Which reduces the nibbling, because it's a PITB to record nibbles.) I suspect I actually get 10-15% more calories than I record, due to measurement and other error. And that's OK with me, because it's a fairly consistent 10-15%. If I spent half my time eating prepackaged, preportioned food (so was getting pretty exact calorie numbers) and the other half eating estimated quantities of foods other people prepared (so had very inexact calorie counts), it would not work for me.

I have a calorie range goal in mind, but it's a long-term average. So I don't worry about eating less one day or more another, but I do worry if it doesn't balance out over a week or so. If I go overboard, I try to get back on track as soon as possible. I leave enough room for a treat every day. Some days it's a big treat (I've got a recipe for Oatmeal with Pear in the Recipes section, and that's nearly 400 calories for a bowl); some days it's a single square of Lindt 85% dark chocolate (53 calories). I like to snack in the evenings, so I save my calories for evening snacking. I try to get at least 100g of protein and 25g of fiber every day, and mostly I succeed. I drink a lot of water, because I like water.

I do exercise. When I was first starting to exercise, I found a 15-minute-a-day plan I could commit to doing every day. After about 3 months of that, I got bored, so now I'm doing something else. At the moment, it's 10,000 steps a day (which for me means adding about a 2-mile walk plus spending my evening moving around the house, rather than sitting on my rear). When I get bored with that, I'll do something else, either instead or in addition to.

I weigh myself every day, which is very much a personal choice thing. I find that I've never had a problem either losing or maintaining (depending on which was my goal) when I weighed every day. And I've gained weight very, very quickly (to the tune of 40+ pounds in 6 weeks one time, which was in large part related to going off some medication - but I ate every one of the calories to get me there) when I wasn't weighing every day. I've done it long enough that I know when to expect gains, what weeks I'm not going to see any movement on the scale, and what weeks I'll see big losses. So if I'm up or down 2 pounds from the previous day, it's not a big deal. I use the Hacker's Diet software (free online thing) to calculate the long-term trend, and that's what I use to make sure I'm on track.

Welcome to the club! Congrats on being unoffically engaged lol! One thing I have learned about exercising with other people is walking is a good place to start. You could go on an evening walk just the two of you...good time to talk too. You could also go to the gym together. But remember everyone exercises at their own pace so this might not be the thing for you. You could also maybe take up a class together. By doing this you get to spend time together while learning something new and meeting new people.

30lb in 9 months is totally possible. Giving yourself 8 months to lose 30lbs is great too. You have a lot of time to get the weight off plus some. So losing only 4-5 lbs a month is totally in reach. Tipically you can loss that in about 2-3 weeks but there is no rush. Don't work yourself to death. If you have time then use. The longer it take to get the weight off the longer it will stay off. It takes time to make a life style change. You can't change the way you have been living for the past few years in only a few weeks or a month. It takes trial and error. With the support of all of us here on the forum and your boyfriend will keep you going.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the tips! Hearing about other people's success is so helpful!

Unfortunately, I have never lost weight with ease. I don't have rapid gains either. I've weighed the same amount+/- 5 lbs for years. I did lose some weight by having a low calorie diet one summer, but I can't sustain that. I already eat pretty healthfully. I think cutting sugar completely out of my diet, combined with regular exercise and no snacking may be effective, but I have never sustained all that at once. Cutting sugar alone, or exercise alone doesn't have immediate effects. I often lose motivation when I don't see results for a month, so it's probable that if I kept it up for 2+ months I would start to see some changes. It's just so hard when I don't see results!

3 easy steps:
1) eat lots of rice and fiberous food including vegetable and drink lots of water.
2) exercise!!!
3) To help with metabolism even more, use a well-known diet pill like slim 30 (ei ta mei), zantrex or trimspa.

I have personally followed this plan and have seen tremendous change. And yes always go for the brown or purple rice you can get from wholefoods or grocery store near you! For exercise I did simple ab crunches with the exercise chair you can get from linen n' things Linens 'n Things (http://www.lnt.com) for a while but then eventually I had to join a gym, worth every penny! The pills - I tried a few but the best are the 3 mentioned. Slim 30 I used to buy from ebay but found a cheaper source: Encure eShop :: Slim-30 Ei Ta Mei Natural Herbal Weight Loss Formula That Works! (http://www.encure.com/storepage/Slim30.htm) (don't buy from the encure.com's front page, they charge you more!) as for Zantrex-3 I'd recommend ebay or your health food store.

It seems kind of strange that people "plan" to get engaged at some future date. Makes me giggle. Cultural differences I suppose.

I'm getting married at some point this spring or summer (more likely summer). My fiance is ridiculously fit, with little effort (ok, he does a lot of push-ups/sit ups during the week, but makes it look easy, and i still don't understand how this alone can give him such a perfectly defined musculature) and I'm flabby and lazy. I've lost 20 lbs so far, 40 to go. I really really hope I won't have too much loose skin by the end, I'm not sure what determines this.

I bought a DDR dance mat a couple months ago and it rules my universe. I still enjoy it. I want to add some weight training but I dont know what to do it. I might just try to come up with some routine using my body weight for resistance.

My goal is a 18.5-19 BMI, and the ability to support my own body weight with my hands in case I'm ever perilously hanging off a cliff.

Also I want to be able to do a handstand for a good 10 minutes or so.

I'm 5'7 and 160 lbs or so currently? I've been doing really badly these first few days of the year! need to get back on track.

OK lets get this going! I am 23 and getting married June 28th 2008. That gives me about six months to lose ~25 lbs. totally possible! I am more worried about my body on my honeymoon, because I am going to be wearing a bathing suit EVERYDAY. I already have my dress and it is a very tight size 10(should have got a 12 but I was optimistic). Anyway, I am in school to become a teacher, so I have very little time I am up by 5:30 and dont get home until aprox 7 on most days. I think I will do better getting up a little earlier to exercise , because I am so tired at the end of the day. I would love some exercise advise from people who are crunched for time as well. good luck everyone!
Im 5'3 ~155lbs

Well, my fiance and I just finalized out wedding date, and it's June 19, 2008! 3 months earlier than I had planned. That means I only have 6 months to lose 30 lbs. I have cut out sugar from my diet, (and that has already made me feel so much better! I can't tell you how sluggish and bloated sugar makes me feel). I am seeing some results on the scale, but I'm not sure if that's because it's a different time of day or if I've lost weight. I think it might be a combination of both. I'm going to try to weigh myself in the mornings from now on so it's consistent.

Good luck to you, liddieloo! Our wedding dates are pretty close together--lets make sure we get into a size 10:) I'm a 14 right now, and I would LOVE to be a 10.

liddieloo, i am currently a medical student and work at the hospital at crazy early hours prob similar hours to you and then have to come back and study.....so i totally understand how you feel about not having enough time. Sometimes when I'm so exhausted and don't feel up to going to the gym, I pop in an exercise dvd. I am currently using the biggest loser volume one dvd, and it definitely gets you going. For the cardio parts, you don't even need any other equipment besides yourself! I can tell you that I always feel sore the next couple days after doing it :). They have segments that are as short as 20 minutes, so you can def. squeeze that in at some point during your day! Anyway, I'm not actually getting married, but getting in shape for SEVERAL weddings this summer! I'm Indian, and at our weddings, our outfits typically show our stomachs, so I def need to get into better shape :)

Hey guys! I would love to join this group as I have a close wedding to attend on April 19. I know that doesn't give me much time but I would like to lose as much as I possibly can before that time. I started out at 183 and am now at 179.

Thanks for the support guys! My niece had her third birthday this weekend, and I was so nervous about the food (hot dogs, chili, chips, cake, and ice cream!) I am still new to my weight loss routine so I am still very tempted by bad foods. I did good though. I ate before the party and was able to say no top everything. Every time I look at my wedding dress, I am motivated to work out. I want to look smokin in that thing!! :Angel_anim:

Totally! I wish I could start exercising this week, but I am sick (again!). I swear, every time I try to start a weight loss or work out plan I get sick and am thwarted. I'm doing the best I can though to watch my diet and calorie intake to make up for it for now.

have you gotten your dress yet? now that I have mine I know exactly what parts of my body need to be toned.

believe it or not I hated vegetables up until about 6 months ago. I started forcing myself to eat them so i could lose weight. I make two different kinds with dinner every night so i feel like i get to eat more with hardly any more calories! You can find any kind of workout video you want on youtube, so I have been experimenting with all sorts of stuff. its fun! I like belly dancing videos.
any other ideas?

Hey Gals,
Great club idea. I'm sure there are a lot of us out there. Especially when wedding dress sizes tend to fit smaller than regular dresses! LOL!

I'm getting married in the summer of 2009. I want to get rid of a bit of weight. It definitely can make finding sample dresses on sale and consignment gowns a lot easier. There are a lot more smaller sizes than larger ones. And I need the money... the more money I save the better! I graduate from grad school a month before the wedding, so money is tight. I guess the less money I spend on food, the more I can spend on the dress!! Sounds like a good trade off.

Best of Luck to you all.

I have not gotten my dress yet. I wanted to wait a few months to see if I lost weight, but it's only 5 months away so I think I had better start looking. I can have it taken in at the last minute, hopefully:)

I need to do better with vegetables. I hardly ever eat them. I like them, but just never cook them. Belly dancing is SO fun. I went to a class once--it only had one session, bu it was still really fun. My cough is practically gone now, so I'd better start exercising! You have inspired me with vegetables. I am going to eat some every day now.

Hey Ladies! Can I join? I got married this past August, but I'm gonna be a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding on July 12th, 2008...

If you need any wedding advice I have plenty! But I wanted to lose weight for my wedding and I was very unsuccessful...I ended up gaining 10 pounds because of stress eating, and then I gained even more on my honeymoon and in the first couple months of newlywedded bliss. So while you're planning your wedding just make sure you aren't eating because of stress...it's no fun to be worrying about being a fat bride, especially if your bridesmaids are all skinny! Luckily my dress had a corset back so it worked out...here's a pic (pardon the look on my face lol this was the only picture I have on this computer):

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1327/n5161744181127545120vz0.jpg

But now with my friend's wedding coming up I'm determined to slim down and be a hot bridesmaid! I don't want to be preserved in her pictures as a fat blob for the rest of her life! Plus her fiance's mom is making the dresses, so we'll be measured which is a nightmare! So I need to lose weight before we get measured, not sure when that will be...

To lose the weight I'm setting short term goals for myself, and I'm counting calories, aiming for 1500 per day. I'm trying to exercise as much as possible but I'm mostly relying on counting cals...I've lost 5+ pounds in the last 10 days, and once those first few pounds come off it's easy to get motivated and I'm really optimistic that I can lose the weight!

I'm looking forward to conversing with all you brides-to-be, it wasn't that long ago that it was me!

Linzee. I love your dress. It looks perfect on you. Screw the "hot bridesmaid" you were definitely one "hot bride"!! Who's the designer of the dress? Is it satin with a chiffon overlay? It right up my alley.

TIP: Buy a dress with a corsetted back that fits as you are now (not done up too tightly). You can easily bring the dress in a size by tightening the corset ties. This way you can minimize the amount you might need to take it in. This is my plan if I end up finding a dress I really want before I am finished losing weight.

it's Mori Lee, it's from a couple years back...i think the style number was 4141...and i don't know what it's made of or even what chiffon is lol, but i think it was like a satiny type stuff underneath and over it was sheer white material with some blue and white embroidery...i loved the dress so much, i'm trying to decide whether or not to keep it, i think i want to but i'm not sure

i second your tip about buying the corset back dress, i would've been screwed if i didn't have it!

ya that dress is really pretty!!

my biggest thing to stress about for my wedding is planning it from so far away. I am having a destination wedding, so I have to pick all of the table linens, plates, etc. over the phone!! i hate that! otherwise, it will be easy (0nly 30 people attending).

does anyone else have family members/friends that are not sympathetic to your diet? My future sister in law is going to be my maid of honor, and she says she wants to lose weight too( she's about 200 lbs). The trouble is that every time I visit her, she wants to get fast food or coldstone or something.

its frustrating! Im like "you know I want to lose weight, so stop trying to get me to eat bad things!!" I think it makes her feel better when she eats unhealthy foods if someone else is doing it with her.

any thoughts?

Hey all,

Congratulations on your special occasions. I am in the same loop. My wedding is on July 12, 2008 and I am desperately trying to shed 40 lbs before that....

I have a hectic schedule on the job so I hit the gym in the morning and workout for approx 60 mins of cardio everyday. I am trying to maintain a diet of 1200 calories also. But I am ashamed to say I cheated today :blush5: Didn't gym at all and feeling really bad.

I need all the support cos when it comes to motivation my cup is always empty. Counting on all you guys....H E L P!

The trouble is that every time I visit her, she wants to get fast food or coldstone or something.

The truth of the matter is you're on your own. That's the way it really is. I have it two-fold. I have people that will eat terrible around me and then I have my mother who buys the bad food and then says "are you sure you should eat that". There is almost nothing worse than being told not to do something! In reality, we got our selves into this trouble and we have to pull ourselves out of it.

Now mind you, I live alone about 12 hours from my mother, so I can keep my irritation at bay. However, this summer I will be moving back in with my parents for four months and I know it won't be easy. I'm trying to gear myself up for it.

If you let people know you are losing weight, they might be more sensitive and aware, but you must be prepared to fend for yourself. If someone suggests getting fast food, suggest a healthier alternative and tell them its your treat (as long as you can afford to do it once in a while). If someone you live with cooks unhealthy, tell them that you'd like to give them a break and cook them dinner for a change. This way you can cook the way you feel is comfortable. If you make people feel like their getting a favor, they are more likely to accommodate what you want. Reverse psychology and self preservation, my friend. When I go to a party (or potluck), I'll bring something healthy. This way you're doing the host or hostess a favor by bringing something AND you've got "fall-back" food in case there is too much unhealthy stuff.

That's my 2-cents. Its tough so good Luck!

I totally agree, and although my sister in law wants to still eat fast food, she tells me that I inspire her because of my conviction to stay on track.

that's what i'm planning on doing...my goal is about 40 pounds away, so i'd like to lose that well before the wedding, and i lost the first 6 pounds in 2 weeks without exercising, so i think if you incorporate lots of exercise and eating right then 10 pounds a month is entirely possible

Just curious, does you dress fit you right now? Its such a toss up whether or not to get the snug dress and lose weight to fit it. I know they always say not to buy a dress with the hopes of losing weight, but it sure helps the motivation! I'm sure you'll do it because you seem committed!

ya, I took the chance and got a size 10 dress that I csn zip up, but barely. it is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery tight. the skirt is free flowing, so it is only tight around the midsection. I am confident that I will fit nicely into it soon :)

I got my dress! It's so beautiful. It's being ordered, not to arrive until may so I'll have plenty of time to lose weight before I am measured for altering.

I finally did it! I woke up at 5 am today and went running. It has been SO hard for me to do this, and it is the only time I have available to exercise since I have such a long commute. I am going to keep doing it, with you all as my witnesses! Also, I have managed to eat vegetables with every evening meal for a week now. This is such a good change. I want to increase vege intake even more.

Lemon: I can tell you, that at 160 lbs you'll look amazing in a wedding dress! That is what I weigh, and I was shocked at how flattering the right design can be to my figure. Good luck! I think wedding dresses make every woman look beautiful, no matter her size.

I also have to go to my fiance's cousin's wedding in June so hopefully I will have most of my weight off by then! Good luck everyone :)

Ooohh a fun topic:) Mine is a long story but here's the shorter version. Last August, I moved 12 hrs away from my family and fiance to go to school. My fiance set up a treasure hunt for me in my new home that included riddles, hidden clues, invisible messages etc. I am HORRIBLE at all of these things, not to mention that I get frustrated really quickly. He had it all timed so that I would finish FOUR months later (yup it was that complicated!) around the time I would be heading home for X-mas. The clues had lead me to a key that he hid in my place when I first moved. Anyways, in early December he drove 12 hours to pick me up and booked a cabin in the mountains for us to stay at on the drive home. While we were at the cabin, he gave me the "treasure chest" that my key was able to unlock. Surprise, surprise...it had an engagement ring inside. I was completely caught off guard. This is what happens when you get engaged to an engineer!!

Can't wait to hear everyone else's stories!!

snow: You are so right. Its amazing what wedding dresses can do!

Oh, and more good news! We finally set a date. You Americans are going to love this...July 4, 2009. And no, our colors are not going to be red white and blue! *LOL*

fun!

i went to highschool with my now hubby (we got married in august)...we became close when i was trying to set him up with a friend of mine and he was trying to set me up with a friend of his LOL

5 years later...as a Christmas gift, i took him on a weekend getaway to go golfing...on one of the holes, i hit a bad shot off the tee...he suggested i tee up another ball and try again, but i didn't want to...but he insisted...he even pulled another ball out of the bag and came to tee it up...he kneels down to tee up the ball, and i'm standing there rolling my eyes...then i look down and he's holding up a small box with a beautiful ring! i was so shocked! and he was so nervous he forgot to ask me to marry him haha...but i said yes anyways lol

planning was wedding was a huge challenge on our relationship, but i had the wedding of my dreams and now i have the best husband ever! being married rules!

what a fun thing to discuss.
My bf and I worked in the same company but we were in two different buildings in two different professions. i was a software engineer and he in corporate finance. in dec 2004 i posted a thread on the online bulletin board and he was one the the many to reply thinking i am a "GUY"...can you imagine....???!!! Well, we got to chatting through emails and 4000 emails and 4 months later we finally met to fight with each other. We became inseparable after that :)
There was no formal proposal in the traditional sense as such as it did not make sense anyways. We were in it for eternity from the very beginning..... ;)
So we just told our parents and fixed a date for the marriage which, btw, is now scheduled on 11th July this year.
I am getting married to the man of my dreams :) yaaaayyyyy

My fiance still has yet to officially propose. We decided to get married a while back, but we are having the ring made custom and he is waiting to do the traditional proposal until it is ready.

I met him through church, actually, and totally hated him! He really liked me immediately and chased me, and I was running for my life. Finally he left off, and that must have done the trick because it's 3 years later and I'm completely in love with him!

I met my honey at his birthday party. A mutual friend wanted to stop by and say hello.....the rest is history.

The proposal was great. He took at jewelery class and made my ring! (actually melted the metal, shaped it, filed it, everything! Someone else set the diamonds though). Anyway, he secretly called both sides of our family and had them all congregate at our fave restaurant. Then one day he casually asked me if I wanted to go eat. When we arrived the waiter took us to a huge table with a bunch of people. When i realized who they all were I turned around to ask my honey what was going on and he was on one knee........:beating:

Hi all! I'm getting married this July and that has been my motivation to get in better shape! I don't have much to lose..maybe 5 or 10 pounds (i do'nt even have a scale anymore), but I'm definitely serious about losing it. Actually I don't even care about the number on the scale, I just want to shed some fat and be more toned in my dress. I tried on my dress at one store, then went to a different one to buy it. I think the dresses were different sizes between the two stores but it was a while back I don't even remember. Anyway, the pic of the first time i tried on the dress kind of scares me...I pray that's not the size I ordered, if it is i have more work to do than i thought! When I ordered the dress it was the size I was actually wearing and from what I remembered it fit perfectly...but in the picture I took the first time shows differently. I'm tempted to go try it on in the size I ordered just for piece of mind. I just reread what i typed and it sounds kind of confusing. Sorry! Also my fiance is sooo thin..sometimes it makes me sick because he can eat whatever he wants and doesn't work out at all..ugggh! We run/workout together sometimes but I always feel like it's doing no good (like he's wasting away and i'm getting a little bitter thinner so it kind of cancels out). Weird I know. Anyway good luck to all of you!

Hi Hypergal....
I'm getting married in July too. Mine is on 11th July. I haven't started shopping for a dress as yet as I have loads to lose...lol... But on the other hand my fiance is not so thin but then again, who does not wanna look their best on their wedding day? My only concern is that when I show my wedding snaps to friends and kin, they should not comment that I have looked better ;)
So me's working out. 1.5 hrs of cardio 5-6 days a week and control over diet (barely...lol). Keeping fingers crossed.
Cheers

Hi! I'd love to join this club, as trying on wedding dresses was what made me realize I need to make changes to get healthy and lose weight!

J and I are planning a Sunday wedding in Oct. 2009 (either the 18th or 25, haven't decided). We're not "officially" engaged, as there is no ring on my finger, but we've talked about it, started planning, and he even asked if I'd marry him. I think a ring is coming soon! *squee*

While I have quite some time before my wedding, my best friend and bridesmaid asked if we could go dress shopping. I think she's more excited than I am right now! Anyway, I agreed, but told her I wouldn't buy anything or make any decisions this early on. She said ok, and off to the store we went.

I tried on a few dresses and realized that, while they were nice, I hated the way I looked. I've been steadily gaining weight every year for the past few years. I've said I need to lose it, but have never actually done anything about it.

Then, there I was, standing in a mirror in a dress that I might wear on my wedding day, and all I saw was a fat girl in a big dress. I honestly didn't recognize myself anymore. It was then and there I knew I had to resolve to get rid of this extra weight and become a healthier person for me and my FH.

I look forward to hearing about your stories, weddings, and of course, weight loss progress!!!

Yeah, every once in a while I'll look at a few dresses online, see the skinny chick wearing it, and wonder if it could look that good on me, too. (Then again, I'll never be that tan...my poor melatonin-challenged skin!) Regardless, it's definitely good motivation!

Hahaha. Yes my skin is challenged, too. My freckles are the only parts that go brown. The rest just turns red! Good ol' tan in a bottle for me!

Its fun looking at dresses online, but it really doesn't give a good idea of what looks good on "normal people". After I tried on a bunch of dresses I got a better idea of what was a definite no-no and what was a possibility. Check out Maggie Sottero. Her dresses have to be the most flattering for women. And they fit the very very best (in my experience and from what I've heard). Her site is pure eye-candy if nothing else. I was fortunate to get one on a sample sale and it is so comfy. I ain't going to be falling out anywhere...LOL!

That is gorgeous.

Yup, if it wasn't for a sample sale I would have been SOL. Though I really wanted a Maggie, I didn't think I would get one because of the $$$. Its funny to think that she is considered one of the more reasonably priced designers. I guess when some people spend 5 grand on a dress, 1 grand seems low. Not in my world however...

I tried not to set my heart on one particular dress because it would have been too hard to realize I couldn't afford it. Instead I had a vague idea of what kind of style I wanted but would pick a dress that was the right price and suited my body. The best thing is to remain open minded. There are thousands of gorgeous dresses out there... there never is only one perfect dress for a person.

I haven't lost any weight the last month either. I thought I was losing, but then I went on birth control and I think I gained a couple pounds because of it. I've been on them for so long, I can't say whether or not it plays a role in my weight anymore. However, a friend of mine just went off the pill and she lost about 10lbs. She's not dieting or anything, and thinks the pill has something to do with it...

I would wait longer. You still have some time! I'd worry that you'd lose a lot of weight and the alterations would have to be redone, at extra cost. I'd wait until 6 or 4 weeks away from the wedding. But that's me. My dress isn't even going to come into the store until 4 weeks before my wedding! I'm nervous about it--but they said that everything will be fine and that is plenty of time for alterations.

I am so excited! I have lost another ten pounds since I bought my dress. My dress is back at my parents house (over 12hrs away), so I haven't seen it since I bought it in February. I'm heading home in two weeks, so I will get to try it on again and see how it fits now.

Welcome Tropical sun!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :cheers2:

I'm getting married on 11th October this year. We decided to finally tie the knot on 29th February, so I've been dieting since then. So far I've lost 16lbs, but there's still some way to go.

What a great thread!

I'm not getting married until 2010 (well, we're young!), but I already have my dress... it was a gift from a friend: she bought it on sale at a whim (and at $30, who wouldn't?), but it was vetoed by her mum. It doesn't fit me at all though... it's two sizes too big! So while we have to get it altered anyway, I'm looking to drop ten kilos so I look great in it!

I guess I can be added to the list of brides to be! I started my weight loss before getting engaged. But this has just amped me up even more. We aren't getting hitched until March of 2009 so I have PLENTY of time and NO EXCUSES to not be at my goal weight by then.

Wow, liddieloo, you look great! Congratulations!

Madness, hello! I want to be at my goal weight at the same time as you: but for graduation, not for my wedding! The ring is a WAY bigger motivation though!

Im a newb, and Im glad I found this thread!
My wedding is October 4, 2008 and I am contractually obligated to lose 50 lbs! (Im under medical supervision--dont try this for fun on your own!) My journey is being documented by an unnamed cable network for a television special. (A classier way of saying Im on a reality show.)

How many dress sizes do you think 50 lbs is?
Darn wedding gowns for being so difficult to size!

Liddieloo, Congrats!!! You look wonderful. Now on to newlywed bliss!

Welcome to all the new faces in here. Welcome Pancake, Madness and RealityBride. Keep us posted on how things are going. I love to hear good news!

RealityBride--its hard to say. It all depends on where you hold your weight (dresses are sized according to your largest measurement). If you look on line, you can see the actual measurements for each size. This may help a bit. My dress has a corset tied back instead of a zipper, which is great because it gives you about two sizes of flexibility. I have lost about 40lbs now and I would guess that I have gone down from around a 16 when I first tried dresses on to somewhere around a 10/12 now. I'm around 5'4" and now about 142. The amount of dress sizes you change might be different if you are taller, shorter, or starting out heavier or smaller...etc. Im curious about "contractually obligated", though. Care to share how the show arrived at the 50lbs or what happens if you don't make it?

Update: So I am almost at my goal weight (2.6lbs away). I will be trying my dress on again when I hit it. Then I'll see how things look. I might need it taken in! Hard to believe...when I bought it in February I was 20lbs heavier and it was just a teensy bit snug! I posted pictures a little while ago, 10lbs heavier. I can't wait to see what it looks like, now.

Holy crap! Way to go lusciouslemon! That's some great weight loss!

I hate buying dresses. I have big hips and a small waist. I always have to have things tailored.

I'm probably not going to wear a dress for the wedding though. I'm going to let my fiance decide (he's never even seen me in a dress!). We are going super casual - backyard wedding, etc. He did say the other day that he wants me to wear something sleek and sexy though so I'm thinking dress now.
