View Full Version : Fasting to make up for a binge?

Over the course of two days, I took in about 10,000 calories. So, I am estimating I gained at least 2 pounds.
I am determined not to eat much at all tomorrow, but I can't find much info on if this will work at all. I would like to go 2 days with taking in 500 calories or less, just eating a sald or two and a few cups of coffee. My body looks as if the fat has already attached itself to place, so I am guessing this won't work very well.
Has anyone else fasted to make up for a binge, and had long term success? Or any other input? Thank you.

In general, compensatory behavior like this is unhealthy. To add, worry about such acute fluctuations is rather silly.

Instead of fasting, only take in 1,000 calories each day for a week. Do more exercise to get your metabolism boosted up to burn off those extra calories. A multivitamin and maybe a thermogenic to help with energy. I hear Mitotropin is suppose to be one of the best. Its new at GNC. Hope this helps.

You really think metabolism is going to boost when someone is taking in 1000 calories per day?
I think not.

You're setting yourself up for a binge-starve cycle if you keep with that mentality. Just consider tomorrow/today a fresh start, no need to make up for anything. Sure you might take a hit on the scales, but it's not about the scales, it's about being healthy.

I agree with Steve and the Fat Lazy Guy (ahha, I love your name!)
So what? You ate 10,000calories, you can beat yourself up over it or you can go back to eating a healthy range of calories and work it off that way. Depriving yourself for over indulging does nothing but harm, and if you really wanna look at it, if you drop to 500calories, by the time you go back to eating normally, you'll just gain some weight anyway. Two negatives don't make a positive.
So, do yourself a favor. Chalk the last 2 days up as bad eating, and go back to your normal calorie range.

so yeah why are you binging like that you wanna get yourself killed. Come on im sorry, but when I see this and the steps one takes to loose weight and lets face it not die early from all the complications that arise from that. I am appaled to see people doing what you are doing. GET SOME SELF CONTROL. Im sorry to be so harsh, but I worked at a hospital andI have seen time and time again some of these patients if they just disciplined themselves, they will have a much better life.

Flipman, if you're going to be so unneccesarily critical, I'm sure this isn't the place for it. Save that energy for the gym. Enjoi realizes already that this isn't healthy, and is trying to take steps to correct it.
Definitely just take a deep breath, drink lots of water, and see today as a new day. If I tried to compensate for all the extra calories I've taken in that caused this weight gain in the first place, I woudln't be eating for weeks and weeks. But don't be too down on yourself. The worst thing you could do, is feel defeated by this and let it keep you down.

well, so far so good I guess. I probably lost 3000 calories today, unless my metabolism stopped. I burnt about 1000 calories with exercise, and only ate 250 calories (1 coffee, 1 salad, 1 beer...lol). Tomorrow, I plan to not exercise much if at all, but only consume about 250 calories again. This should get me another negative 2000, again assuming my metabolism isn't screwed. Then, I am done fasting and will go back up to 2000 or so calories. Probably won't really get me -5000 in the long run, but it has got to help alot in making up for my binge. I never want to do this again, and will think about how hard this is next time I think of binging...
Yeah, I know this post is pretty pointless but it is helping me get through this. So if you don't like it, just ignore it...

N on on o no no nono. Don't eat today based on what you ate yesterday. Eat everyday as if the day before and the day after are not important.
Because they aren't.
If you starve yourself you will just binge again. Its not good for you AND it isn't really necessary. If you eat at a HEALTHY caloric deficit you will still lose weight. So you gained 2 pounds. Its just 2 pounds. You can take that off in a week or two healthily. And if you can take off 1 or 2 pounds in 2 weeks in a healthy manner, then you've gone two weeks without starving or binging.
If you haven't lost, then adjust slightly to compensate. Taking drastic measures leads to bad bad things. its not sustainable weight loss for life.
If you really, truly want to lose weight, then you need to make lifestyle changes. Its not about fasting. You can't fast for life. You have to break the cycle. Whats done is done. Think about what you can do now to be healthy. Fasting isn't healthy to make up for a binge isn't healthy.

Why don't you just eat healthy foods and exercise the binge off?

Sorry, just saw this and felt compelled to respond to it.
so yeah why are you binging like that you wanna get yourself killed.
One can die from a 2 day binge on food? 10,000 cal in 2 days is not that big of a deal honestly.
Come on im sorry, but when I see this and the steps one takes to loose weight and lets face it not die early from all the complications that arise from that. I am appaled to see people doing what you are doing. Thanks for the help..... I assume you have no unheatlhy habits at all right? nothing? Advice on how to not binge? anything? You are appalled? Who the hell are you anyway?
GET SOME SELF CONTROL.
Oh! that is all I needto do? Why the hell didnt you tell me that earlier. That is so helpful.. I did not realize it is that easy.
Im sorry to be so harsh,
Not accepted asshat.
but I worked at a hospital andI have seen time and time again some of these patients if they just disciplined themselves, they will have a much better life.
Who the hell are you anyway? Why do you feel the right to comment on people's lives? The OP ate 10,000 cal in 2 days- 5000 a day for the math challanged- shit, that used to be a saturday for me. This was not a earth shattering binge at all.
If 'disiplining themselves' was so easy there would be noone addicted to anything- guess what asshat, it isnt that easy.
