Hi! I'm not a Mommy, but I thought that you ladies would be able to relate...

My husband and I recently decided that the time is right for us to start a family, but before we do so, I want to lose some weight. I don't want to get pregnant and be so fat that I have to be rolled around or I can't move!

So, my question is this? How many of you ladies lost weight before you got pregnant? Is this a common thing?

i had my stomach stapled before i got pregnant.. turns out i couldn't have children, but yes.. the intent was to lose weight before any pregnancy which was obviously recommended by my doctor. i think it is a common thing, and seems logical and sensible to me.. GOOD LUCK!!! :D

Hello! Before my 1st child i lost 70lbs, and gained 40lbs while pregnat. i couldn't lose it all and i got pregnat again, I seemed to lose all that weight easy but i'm still stuck with the 1st baby weight. i would suggest loseing weight before, it helps in getting pregnat and you won't feel so big and you'll just feel better about yourself! And also when you are heavier when you get pregnat, diabetes can play a big part. Good luck to you!

Getting into the best health BEFORE pregnancy is a GREAT plan! Go for it! Obesity in pregnancy increases your chances for a BUNCH of complications and problems.

I gained weight with each pregnancy, it made all the health problems 100x worse like high blood pressure.

For the last 2 i ended up being in hospital for a couple weeks. Never again. I would fully agree with you loosing the weight before getting pregnant and inbetween children if you need too :)

Dont be a dufus like i was lol :D

Hi there, As well I have had 2 children and want a 3rd but I decided this time I needed to loose some weight and get healthier before I tried to have my 3rd baby. I also ended up very sick when I was pregnant and lost about 15-20lbs in the first 4 months with both my children. I feel getting fit and healthy may help with that. Good Luck on your Weight loss!!!:)

It is a good plan to lose weight before getting pregnant. But please make sure that you still get enough nutrients because you want to be in the pink when you do start trying to have a baby. As soon as you start trying to get pregnant stop trying to lose weight by dieting but through exercise instead. That doesn't mean you can eat whatever you want but you should load up on nutritious food and supplements! Good luck!

You're definitely on the right track. Try not to lose with a Get Quick Diet plan. Make the changes as you would for a healthy long term committment. You're going to need all food groups and vitamins to set yourself up for the Fun Getting Pregnant Stage!!!

Happy Trails!!!

I was a healthy weight before pregnancy and definately think it's a good idea to be a healthy weight before you become pregnant both for you and the baby. Eat well after you become pregnant too though, it is only supposed to be a 20 to 25 pound gain! That was my mistake and I'm paying for it now.

I think even if you dont have to lose weight before getting pregnant its still a good idea to start eating healthy, it can make your pregnancy SO much easier.

I would start just trying to eat healthy, and take prenatal vitamins (yes before you get pregnant) and get yourself on the right track. It will also help you when ttc.

Depending on how much weight you have to lose, but my sister had a nutritionist while she was pregnant, and she ended up coming out of the pregnancy losing 15lb.

One of the main reason i want to lose weight is so when i decide to have kids i can watch my belly grow. :D

I put on weight before I got pregnant (about 10kg). It was the worst thing I could do because my skin was already stretched. I have a saggy stretchmarked tummy (it's not too bad, but I hate it).

It's a great idea - apart from the health benefits - you may not get stretch marks because your tummy will just return to normal size!

I lost about ten pounds before I got pregnant. Then I lost thirty so far since I've had my son.

There are a ton of health reasons to lose weight before you get pregnant, like possibly getting gestational diabetes, but I agree with the person who said a get-thin-quick program is not the way to go. Making healthy lifestyle changes, like beginning a consistant exercise program (no matter how small to start) and cutting out extra sugar and fat will benefit you and your baby in the long run.

Oh, plus it's smart to start prenatal vitamins three months in advance of becoming pregnant as well! The ACOG shows that this lessens the change of neural tube defects by like, 90%. Pretty amazing!

You are totally on the right track - get to your goal weight before pregnancy! I know it's what my doc said and those of all of my friends who were overweight before getting pregnant.

this is one of my favorite reasons for losing weight. i'm not really looking to have kids for a few more years (i'm only 20) but i've always wanted to have a few kids and i just want to be a cute preggo woman and feel all glowing and not feel like a whale. i'm sure toward the end everyone feels like a whale, lol, but it can't hurt.

besides, if i am already living a healthy lifestyle, then i won't have to worry about trying to change my diet all that much when i do get pregnant, or during the fun trying stage.

I lost 60 lbs before my third and it was by far my best pregnancy. Also, when you go on a weight loss journey, you grow in other ways as well. This too helped me.

i'm trying to lose weight before a pregnancy too...i just got married 5 months ago, and we won't be having kids for at least 2 more years, but i want to take on a healthy lifestyle before i start trying...

i'm not sure if it's true, but i believe it, i hear that the types of foods you eat while you're pregnant and nursing are the foods that your child will crave...so if you eat healthy, your child will want healthy foods...even if it's not true it sounds like a good motivation to be healthy to me!

also...my sister just had a baby...she's the skinny sister lol...and when she was 8 months pregnant, she weighed less than i do now...AAAH! so ya i don't wanna be a gross flabby whale pregnant lady...

I lost thirty before I had my son and ended up gaining about 34 while pregnant. So far, 2 months postpartum, I've only kept 2 of those 34 lbs! A lot of people say that when you lose a lot of weight that's when you get pregnant. I want another baby soon, but will be getting down to a healthy weight first. I think it's a great idea.

part of my reason for wanting to get fit now is also for future pregnancy. i want to have a healthy pregnancy and i know that being in good physical condition will make things go sooo much more smoothly and giving birth will be easier. plus i want to be a cute pregnant lady and have that adorable baby bump.
