Anyone have any experience in taking psyllium husk powder as a fiber supplement? I hear it's fantastic for giving your body that "full" feeling, and that you can go below your daily caloric intake without the negative impact of "starvation mode" because fiber tricks your body into thinking its full.

I just bought some from bodybuilding.com as an impulse buy with my protein powder, but just trying to figure out if it's worth it. Also, WHEN is the best time to take a fiber supplement like that?

I'm not a fan of fiber supplements... as I don't think it's that difficult to get more than your daily dose thru food sources... and the husk is really just a fiber supplement.. (only a little less old peopleish than metamucil :D

When to take it - depends on your body -you might find at the outset - your body has an - ahem- interesting reaction... you wouldn't wantt o take it before a date with that really cute girl - the noxious farts you might get tend to be a turn off :D

I've been eating lots of raw veg for 3 weeks now and I'm still gassy and farty from them. Over the weekend I didn't eat many so I got backed up; now I have the opposite problem.

What I wouldn't give for a normal digestive system. About all I can say is at least I don't get heartburn anymore.

Thank you for the responses... lol. I'll be making sure not to go on any dates when I take it. :P The only reason I ask is because although I've been fairly regular, I've heard about the "flush" effect that fiber has and how I can go below my required cal intake (not that I plan on starving myself - I currently average about 1800-2200 calories per day, thinking about going to 1600-1800) and still not have to worry about the negative impact of starvation mode. Any experience regarding this?

My cousin is a little...um weird...and she is always wanting me to try her weird things. As long as I don't see the harm in them, I've given them a shot. One was the husks. It did exactly nothing for me on the "starter" dose. Within 4 or 5 days, I was taking the "ream you out" dose and it still did nothing. I eat tons of fruits and veggies and that just seemed to overpower anything that the husks would do for a person that has a low fiber diet.

I never got a full feeling even though I was just taking juice in the morning with the husks. I was RAVENOUS by the time lunch rolled around. My body was in no way tricked that it was full. I think your body can tell the difference between nutritionless filler and fiber filled real food. Eat a bunch of carrots in the morning. That will keep you full, be low in calories, plus be packed with nutrients.

I've been taking psyllium husk for the past few weeks, and I've found that it makes me feel quite full if i take it about an hour before dinner. I've also found that it does absolutely nothing to make me more "regular. Please excuse me if I'm providing TMI or being too graphic, but I'm one of those people who goes a week between BM's. Sadly, the psyllium doesn't seem to be helping much (and yes, I am drinking about 90 oz. of water a day, just to be sure it isn't sitting there in my gut).

Thank you madness and Raven, for your responses. ;) I have the powder since I'm an impulsive spender, so I imagine I will use it and see what it does...

Will keep you all updated on my.. uh.. movement? ;)

I was just checking out the metamucil website and it appears that you only get like 3g of fibre per serving. So, I drink 3 glasses a day of the stuff, add an aditional 135 calories to my diet and I only end up getting 9g more of fibre per day? Is it worth it?
