Hi everyone!
My name is Anke and I'm 5"8. Has anyone else noticed how well we can hold our weight?? To the point that you'll be 20 pounds away from your goal and people will tell you that you shouldn't lose more.
Any other tall girl stories?? Oh, have you noticed how MUCH we can eat compared to the hobbits!? Awesome!

^ Cow here too, mal!
I'm 5'10" and my fiance is used to short chicks. So when I said that I was ready to really lose weight and I wanted him to help (and get involved since he's been complaining about his own weight recently) and he said "yeah, let's get you down to 130!" Er....how about 150? Even that is pushing it for me!

I doubt either of you resemble cows in any way!!
Im 5'8 and i know what you are saying abt carrying the weight, I sometimes feel that 168lbs is my ideal weight (for looking curvy and in proportion - and keeping my boobs!). I was this weight when i got married and was totally happy with it. It just happens to give me a BMI of 25.5 which is just in the overweight catagory. So once i get there i might well decide to go further but i doubt it! Seems like a very long way off though.....lol

I'm 5'9" (5'8" 3/4--- I round up;)) with a large bone structure, and I'm currently 204lbs and fitting in a size 14/16. I asked my Dr. how much I should ideally weigh and she told me that at 175lbs I'll look awesome... 165 would be thin for me.
When I tell people how much I weigh, they're usually shocked because most people can't tell that I'm currently topping 200. This is me currently:
[img=http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5086/n6026732373920194393mf6.th.jpg] (http://img299.imageshack.us/my.php?image=n6026732373920194393mf6.jpg)
Even though I have my share of blubber, I feel like I have dense fat or something, haha... or I just have a lot of muscle under my fat.
MADNESS:
I HATE when people say things like that too (i.e."let's get you down to 130lb) haha, if I EVER weighed 130 I think I would look skeletal.

July 25th, 2008, 01:12 PM
Yeah, I do admit that most people would have never guessed that I was over 200. Even my fiance was totally shocked when I told him how much I weighed. People are just used to 5'5" girls that weigh 175 when they are overweight! :p

Elleelise, I believe we have almost the same body type and structure... and I damn well HOPE it's a bunch of muscle under there! :p

Ye, I think 5"6 and up can count as "tall"!
I'm loving my height... it looks like I have 10 pounds left to lose, not 20!

I'm 5'9" and I guess I was able to wear my weight well up to a certain point. People are surprised when I tell them I was at 241.
At 175 I look pretty good, but I think getting down to 165 will look a lot better. Or at least a couple inches smaller here & there. Burn off some more fat, gain some more muscle... that type of thing.

I am a tall one too.
I am 5'9 and weigh 175 lbs.
All through school I weighed 125lbs but after 3 kids I blew up to 200lbs and over the past year I have slowly lost approx 25lbs but want to kick it up a notch and lost 10-15lbs more.
I don't expect to look like I did 20 years ago but to look toned and healthy would be nice.

I am 5' 9'' and currently 205 pounds. My highest weight was 260. I originally decided to shoot for 150-155, but I am beginning to wonder if that is realistic. Right now, (at 205) people are telling me that I look like I am "almost there". Several of my good friends have told me that if I lose 50 more pounds like I want to that I will look way too thin. I suppose I should just play it by ear and not let others judge which weight makes me comfortable.

Ah! This is perfect! I was just thinking about starting a thread like this, until I scrolled down and found this one. lol ;d
I'm 5'6" - 5'7"...I haven't measured myself in a long time, and I didn't realize I have a tendency to slouch, so who knows how tall I am. ):
Anyway...I'm at 220 right now, and looking in the mirror, not even I could tell. The problem I had was looking at other people's photos, seeing how they weigh the same/less than me, but still look heavier. I was like, wait, what? I mean, I know height changes your appearance, but for me, it was still weird. I just wish I knew how/where my body stored all the fat. I'm thinking arms and butt because I can never find clothes that fit properly there. Like, it fits fine everywhere else but the sleeves are tight and pants won't come up over the bum. lolol
Like someone else mentioned, I think I am dense (wait, that came out wrong!)...or my fat is condensed, or something. Heh...

Hey
Im 6'2" and I definatly dont manage to hold my weight at all. In fact quite the opposite. I just wish i could loose weight off my hips and thighs more than anything but it seems impossible. I suffer from very bad cellulite as well which just makes me feel ill everytime i see it!

Hi, everybody!
I have the same problem. Because I’m 5’8 all my friends are under 5'5 I tend to slouch because I don’t want to draw attention to myself when we go out. I don’t even realize I’m doing it sometimes.

I know I am getting in on the action a little late, but I was so happy seeing a forum about tall girls that I had to comment one way or the other.
Just like elleelise I am 5'8 3/4" but just round up to 5'9". I am 175 now and am not feeling like I am holding it very well. I have cellulite, rolls, the whole shebang. Have you ever noticed most men lie about their height? When I was dating it seemed if I subtracted 2" off their supposed height, that would be their real height.
I do have my ideal goal at 140 but I do know that around the 150's I always looked great. :D

Interesting you say you don't hold that weight very well. I'm about the same height, just a bit under 175, and I feel that if I went all the way down to 140 I'd be skeletal. crazy how the ideal can vary between so many people of similar heights.

hi,jumping on board here..lol
I am 5.8+ and currently weigh 212-214. At my heaviest I was 225 and looked pretty bad(too me) I lost 50 for my wedding 2 yrs ago, weighed 175, but slowly over the next 18months gained it back...oh the frustration!
I think I looked great at 175, but I would have like to lose another 10-15 lbs and tone my arms and abs more. At this point, I have been up and down between 218-205 for the past 6 months and have decided to really get serious about my weight and health. I quit smoking 8 months ago, which is great, but I think it has really been counter productive in my weight loss efforts!
Today I start again! I have a goal to lose 20lbs by mid october.
As taller women, we do stand out, and I think that is even more reason to be fit, becuase no one likes attention when they are overweight.

Im 5 foot 11" think, im 1.78 m tall.
Well, in my country Im rare. We tall girls are rare as asians are mostly short people.
I have middle eastern blood so Im big build and tall.
People stare a lot, when im slim & tall. People stare and I get special treatment, they always think im a tourist, so when I enter a shop, I will be served first. when I board a bus, the bus driver will always ask me, where do i want to drop and he when the stop is reached, we will call for me.
People wave at me a lot, especially young teenage girls. They always ask if im a model.
But opposite now that Im fat, people still stare!
And now, they stare coz, to them im like a giant, super big and tall!
They stare and me and some look at me in disbeleif. haha...
I feel that Im used to those stare but sometimes there are times when I stare back! and I stare with hate and anger.
Part of the reason why I want to loose weight, very very badly.

I'm 5'8" and was 215+ when I delivered my baby in July 2007. I've made it to 162 and just can't get motivated to lose 30 more. It just seems impossible! To those of you that carry your weight well, I'm happy for ya, but mine all goes to my butt, so when I'm heavy, I'm VERY bottom heavy. I'd like to lose weight so I can have a normal size ass, that's all. :)

Just thought I would join in on the fun. I'm 5'11'' and weighed 172.6 this morning! I am hoping to be in the 160s within the next couple of weeks. It's been an exciting ride, but I just want to see the skinny, muscular girl under this fat.
To add another interesting topic to this discussion:
How did you all decide on a goal weight? I have been overweight my whole life, so I have no idea what weight I should be. It's just so hard not having that ultimate number in mind. I'm a planner, so I feel this need to know what my goal is. And since there aren't many girls my height that I can compare myself to, I don't have a frame of reference.

Hi lizziemay!
First of all, AWESOME job on your great weight loss so far!
It's funny to see we have so many similarities, including our names (lizzie's actually my middle name). I'm 5'11 and currently weigh 180, and I'm 23 years old. I used to weigh 200 in high school, but have been at my current weight for 5 years or so. I've never been able to get down into the 170's, how did you do it???
I've been overweight my whole life too... and am also having trouble finding a goal weight. You are now in the healthy BMI range for our height, so just find a weight that you feel comfortable and healthy in, and that you will be able to maintain without going insane (undereating or overexercising). Also, you may be more or less muscular than I am, so it all makes a difference. I'm going to try for 165.... let me know how you're doing!

Hi Lizzie!
Wow, we really are quite similar. I weighed about 200 coming out of high school, and then put on the college 20 as I call them. I had (and still have) major emotional issues with food, but I am working on them as I work on forming healthier habits.
To answer your first question, I got to this weight thanks to good old Jenny Craig. I had a family member join and lose a bunch of weight, and I got to taste some of her food and see how easy it is to lose weight on that program. I signed up the next week. I've been on the program since the end of April, and have lost about 50 lbs. so far. I did have a few setbacks that made my loss slower than it would have been had I stayed fully on the program that whole time, but still that's a lot of weight in that period of time. And I am confident that I did it the healthy way, and a way that I can maintain. JC even teaches you how to maintain your weight after you stop eating all their food everyday, so that will definitely help me. I just can't say enough good things about it. I'm not a salesperson or anything, but if you want to learn more about it, you can go on their forums and read more. The forums are a great support system for me.
I am actually getting my body fat measured on Monday, so that will be interesting. I think it will help me figure out what my goal should be. I'll keep you posted about that.
Good luck with your weight loss. No matter how you do it, I'm sure you WILL do it!

Yes, I think it certainly would be. I'm 5'7, and currently 139, wanting to get back to 120. I have a very small bone structure, so I don't carry extra weight well at all. If I were 100 lbs, even with my small bones, I would look very skeletal.

Yay! Tall people!
Well, I'm 5'8" and currently at 260. Yeah, working on that...O.O I'm built a bit big so I'm shooting for around 160, maybe a little less. I carry most of that weight around the midsection and in my arms and my face. I especially hate the weight around my face, ugh. I was about 170 a few years ago and I remember feeling like I could lose about ten or fifteen pounds and be quite happy with myself. Those were the days! I can't wait until they're the days again.

Bump for the tall girls!
I'm not quite 5'8 but close enough.
At my heaviest I weighed 205, my ideal ideal weight is around 140lbs, but would be very happy to get to 150. I'm currently at 197, and lost 8lbs in my first three weeks. W00!
At my lightest at 23-24, I was around the 145lb mark. Here's to hoping I get back there with relative ease!
