I'm working towards losing 100lbs and I wanted to know if I get a tattoo now if the quality of it could be affected by weightloss?

I'm planning to get my tat on the upper center of the back. Like above my bra, between my shoulder blades kinda.

I've hear of tattoos getting distorted as people lose or gain weight. Remember silly putty? Ever press it onto a comic in the newspaper then stretch it out to make the imprint all distorted? That's basically what happens to your skin with a tattoo.

I don't think that it would change much, if at all, on your back since there's probably not a whole lot of fat there to lose so your skin wont change. I would call up a tattoo shop and ask them that question though to get a firmer answer since they deal with it all the time.

I don't think it's going to change much if it at all. I've lost nearly 80 lbs and the tattoo on my upper arm, which covers most of my upper arm, hasn't been distorted at all.

I think gaining and loosing only affects tats on the mid-sections... say if you were going to get it on your lower back instead of upper... But like storm_knight suggested you might call the shop to see...

And post pics when you do get it!

Its not going to change. I actually asked this very same question to the guy at the Tattoo Shop yesterday. He showed me his arm [which was covered in tats]. He showed me this lettering and said he got that when he was 350lbs and now he weighs about 220 and that tattoo looks normal. Its not distorted or anything.

Oh and from personal experience. I have a dragon tattood on my stomach. My belly got HUGE when I was pregnant [it was very very big, you'd think I was having triplets!] and even though my belly has more tightening to do my tattoo looks pretty much normal.

thanks everyone for taking the time to reply!!!!
yeah everywhere I read pretty much said that if it's in an area where the skin doesn't stretch that much that for sure it wouldn't be affected but I just wanted to hear it from others.
I'm still trying to find a shop to get my tat at...I think I found the person I want to do it....he has done some amazing stuff both black/grey and color which is both really important to me, and I've heard good things about the place as well. I'm trying to wait to get my tat done until I hit my half way goal which I'm hoping will be sometime in December but I'm getting a little anxious!
I'll definately post pics cuz it's gonna be awesome!
