Getting Over a Weight Loss Plateau

hey kate, sorry to hear you are frustrated, as i think i am the queen of frustration. i hit a 8 month long plateau and it was terrible.

things i learned (which you probably already know & actually probably told me yourself ;) ):
*change it up! i took this as many different things - work out in the am sometimes vs not always in the pm / change the foods, but count the calories, change the eating times (more in am, less in pm, more at lunch, something like that)
*add weight training - i think you do some already? (not sure) but if you do, i would think you probably have to change the routine - different exercises, etc - if you don't, you really need to in order to get your metabolism working at full speed again...

*don't just walk - i was running, only and couldn't figure it out. as difficult it is if you dont belong to a gym (as i dont), it is figuring out how to "cross train" with limited equipment. the bike sounds great as does the jump rope! great ideas. i don't know if you have steps, but to increase intensity may work. or, possibly vhs/dvd tapes to 'confuse' your metabolism and get it working. i think with cardio, its the intensity, duration, and frequency, so changing one or two of those may get you moving...

*increase the water - i drink a lot of coffee as well, but increase the water...that never hurts and could flush you out some possibly - cant hurt to try!!!

you told me once that you exercised in the am and also in the pm and that worked before - maybe try that?

overall, i think, you need to change it up - your body is getting used to your new improved self and doesn't know that you want to lose even more (as you have lost twenty pounds - whoo-hoo!!!!!) so you need to trick it. it is a matter of figuring out which aspect to change or which two to change to get that stupid scale movin' again. you can do this. that is not the question, it is figuring out what your next plan will be to lose the next 10 lbs and then from there, it will probably have to change again! change can be very good ;).

my 2 cents...probably borrowed from you and a few others in the past...
hope you had a good walk.
sarah

(by the way, i would never 'give' my lbs to you or dana!! lol, i am sprinkling fairy dust weight loss on all of us - we can all celebrate together!!!!!)
